What Now?

My plate is empty.

What now?

Time to stare into

the vast unknown

and wait for the answers

that will never come.

My wallet is empty.

What now?

Time to work again

until my fingers bleed

and I have just enough

to say I have nothing.

My soul is empty.

What now?

Time to search for meaning

that will mend this broken

and exposed creature

to some semblance of a human being.

Nameless faces pass me by

as I wait for one named face

to say good-bye.

In this moment, I realize

those nameless faces hold more

than the one I recognize.

So many stories pass untold,

just crying out to be heard,

words waiting to take mold.

It was a bright cold day

in January,

and the clocks were striking

Big Brother stood above,

hands in the air,

preaching to the loyal choir

War is peace.

Freedom is slavery.

Ignorance is strength.

Propaganda produced

to those who will

swallow the pill with pride.

War can be peaceful.

Freedom is never free.

Strength is knowledge.

Alternative Greeting Cards

Some greeting cards for the “alternative facts” of life.

You are the love of my life…

I believe in reincarnation, so I don’t mean this life. Bye.

My love for you is greater than the crowds at Trump’s inauguration.

Depending on how you look at it, I love you a lot.

Happy 35th Birthday!

Oh, you’re 53? Same thing, that’s a fact!

My deepest sympathies to you in your time of need.

Sorry for your father’s passing. He’s not dead? Well he will be someday.

Merry Christmas!

March 20th only comes once a year. I hope Santa is good to you.

Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow

I’ve been a cat for a while now

and I’ve learned a thing or two

about how a simple meow

can get a human to do

remarkable feats and tasks,

some unbelievable, but true.

Once, I meowed all night long,

until I made my human shout,

but still I carried on my speech

and proved without a doubt,

humans need not a night of sleep

to fill my bowl with trout.

                                                               Something is not quite right,

although in this light it’s hard to tell,

but I think what’s broken can’t be fixed

and it might be time to sell.

I’d hoped that it wasn’t true

and that this problem could be solved,

but the whole thing is off-center

and from there the problem evolved.
