The power’s out
and chill sets in
as darkness fights,
sure to win.
A scream fills air,
once silent and still,
as your heart skips,
secretly loving the thrill.
Monsters aren’t real,
at least not seen,
but monsters exist
in more than just dreams.
A full moon may warn
but still you won’t see
the ghost of yesterday
that never should be.
The scariest sight
is one you know well;
look deep within
at your own deserved hell.
Month: October 2017
Weathered
Flowers in bloom
wilt to nothing
as leaves decay
and bitter winds
blow death away.
Autumn chills
burn the lungs
with frosty air
and rosy cheeks
are not prepared.
Seasons change
but we remain
left to weather
the pelting rain.
Storms blow through,
leaving only ruin
with pieces left
that broke too soon.

Riches
Sometimes I think I was wrong
to choose a family lacking riches.
How’s a cat to live properly
with access to so few fishes?
But then there are times
when I know I chose just right
like when it is oh so cold
and I cuddle with my girl all night.
But still I think it would be better
to find someone with wealth
since they could afford some heat
which is better for my health.
But then I hear that bag shake
and I am right where I should be,
waiting for my fish to eat
with my chosen family.

Nighttime Stroll
Eerie voices send chills
through a beating heart
that then stills.
The darkness thrills;
into your brain,
it slowly drills.
Your ears fill
with the endless silence
meant to kill.

Halloween: The Musical
It is truly the most wonderful time of year! As a horror fanatic, there is no greater time to enjoy the ghouls, goblins, witches, vampires, zombies, and ghosts than in the fantastic month of October. It just so happens that this season is named after me too!
While my family has always decorated for the fantastic holiday known as Halloween, we have started a new tradition of filling our yard with creepy people. In fact, they have all become a part of the family. I filmed a quick video last year to send to my friend in Antarctica (hi, Aaaaamy!) since it was my daily goal when we were in college to scare her in any way imaginable. I decided to go with the theme of Christmas carols since it was the most wonderful time of the year. While I don’t know if she was quaking in her boots due to the cold or my video, I decided this year I should up the game.
This year we focus on musicals since what is life, or death, without music?
So, without further ado, here is said video for your viewing pleasure.
#tbt
Plain clothes,
undercover in a sea
of disdain.
Fighting just to breathe
and keep my head
out of the rain.
Marked by wounds
that cut far deeper
than the vein.
Singed by the fire
I started simply
to ease the pain.

Some Love
Some love is grand,
some love is bitter,
some love will last,
some love is temporary,
some love is distant,
some love will smother,
some love is needed,
some love is wanted,
some love is stolen,
some love
breaks you into pieces
so that someone else
you once loved
is someone else’s
love.

One-Way Street
I always look both ways
on a one-way street
since I never can trust
any soul that I meet.
The more age I gain,
the more trust I lose,
to assholes who stab me
when they don’t like my views.
No brothers in arms
and no honor among thieves;
every man for himself
with tricks up his sleeves.

Mushy Stuff
It’s not that I hate you,
I just don’t really like you.
However,
if there were anyone I could love
other than myself
you would be a close second
to the squirrel.
Now that the mushy stuff
is out of the way,
how about we discuss
something slightly more important.
Where’s my fish?

Unscathed
Broken bottles scar the floor
from whatever scuffle
happened here before.
Tainted red with blood,
booze runs its course,
a drunken flood.
Is anyone left unscathed
by these tragedies?
Anyone saved?
All these wounds scar the skin
and still run deeper,
right through our kin.
Broken images fill her head
from moments passed
when she should be dead.
Tainted black with malice
her soul sinks deeper,
her heart so callous.
Is anyone left unscathed?
