It pains me to say,
you were right.
Do you remember
the way it felt
that night?
We both knew
what tomorrow
would bring
still it didn’t mean
a damn thing.
As you drifted
off to sleep,
three words
from your lips
did creep.
My heart froze,
my mind raced,
my breath caught,
and all those feeling
I bravely fought.
Morning came
and you awoke.
Your mouth
not moving
and still you spoke.
Those eyes,
blue and deep,
begged me to stay
and still
I walked away.
But somehow you knew
in the words you never said
and you were right
that I should have stayed
with you, in bed.
